An iPS-derived, Vascularized Cardiac Tissue as an in vitro Drug Screening Platform

Drug attrition due to cardiac toxicity is prevalent, and a better preclinical screening tool is required in order to solve this issue. Here we present an in vitro vascularized cardiac tissue derived from an induced pluripotent stem cell line that can potentially serve as an improved drug screening platform. Using a microfabricated device, we form lumenized vessels with cardiomyocyte spheroids, and have recorded appropriate drug responses to norepinephrine, isoproterenol, and propranolol.
