HUVEC-MSC Interactions in the Initiation of Capillary Network Formation

There is a demand for construction of functional capillaries in the field of tissue engineering. However, the mechanism of such capillary formation remains poorly understood. Here, we established a co-culture model of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) to investigate the interaction between HUVECs and MSCs in the process of functional capillary formation. Our study revealed that MSCs have two different effects on the capillary formation of HUVECs.
