Microfluidic Neuron: A Neuromimetic Approach to Interact with Biological Neurons

This article deals with the design of a new microfluidic device which reproduces the electrical behavior of one biological neuron. The main goal of this microfluidic neuron is to simplify the interactions with biological neurons. Hybrid experiments could be done and then it will be useful for the study of neural networks and for medical applications like neuroprosthesis. This device is composed of several PDMS layers and the connections between the different chambers are ensured by a selective ion membrane. The silver electrodes inside the chambers measure the difference of potential. We obtain an electrical behavior of this microfluidic neuron similar to the biological one.
