"More Than Just Accuracy": A Novel Method to Incorporate Multiple Test Attributes in Evaluating Point of Care Tests
Current frameworks for evaluating diagnostic tests are poorly suited to point of care tests (POCTs), where trade offs exist between numerous aspects of the testing process and test attributes. This may lead to incomplete assessments of the balance between the benefits and harms associated with POCTs. We developed a new model that visualizes multiple test attributes, interactions between them, and their impacts on outcomes. This could be used to prioritize R&D, provide a framework for regulatory and reimbursement decisions, and more informed clinical decision making around POCTs.
